Injection mould life depends on more than steel quality. How accurately every
mould component is machined can directly influence how the complete tool performs
over repeated production cycles.
Cores, cavities, inserts, guide systems and mating surfaces must operate together within
controlled tolerances. When component geometry or alignment is incorrect, uneven
loading, friction or premature wear can develop during production.
Precision CNC machining helps manufacture critical features closer to their intended
dimensions and geometry. EDM, grinding and other finishing processes can then be
selected according to the component and surface requirements.
Accurate machining supports:
- Better core and cavity alignment
- Consistent component fit
- Reliable mould opening and closing
- Accurate moulded-part dimensions
- Reduced unnecessary mechanical wear
- Better interchangeability of replacement components
Precision is especially important in multi-cavity moulds, where dimensional consistency
must be maintained across many cavities.
LEO Precision operates a 150,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility with more than
50 CNC machines, supporting the manufacture of precision PET preform
moulds, ISBM moulds, caps and closure moulds and specialised tooling.
A longer-lasting mould is engineered micron by micron—before the first
production cycle begins.
